Video Encoder Comparison Files

We believe that at some point you have to stop talking tech and actually show the results. What follows below are five videos that represent a range of complexities. For each video you can click the play button to see the file before deciding to download the respective samples.

Four versions of each file are included. They are:

• Source file. This is the file that all encodes were created from.
• AV1 codec. This is the Aurora1 encoded AV1 file for the video.
• HEVC codec. There are three files to choose from. The first is our Aurora5 HEVC file. The second is x265 at the same bitrate as Aurora5, and the third is x265 encoded at the bitrate needed to equal the same quality that Aurora5 produced.
• AVC codec. There are three files to choose from. The first is our Aurora4 H.264 file. The second is x264 at the same bitrate as Aurora4, and the third is x264 encoded at the bitrate needed to equal the same quality that Aurora4 produced.
