Zheng Zhu brings a depth of experience in video codec development and technology as a serial entrepreneur and Co-Founder/CTO of QianYi Video that was acquired by Kingsoft Cloud in 2015.
As the top contributor for algorithm design and software implementation and codec optimization, Zheng built the highly regarded HEVC encoder known as QY265, and then KSC265 after QianYi’s acquisition by Kingsoft Cloud. KSC265 earned the top spot in the MSU HEVC Video Codecs Comparison 2017 – Overall.
At Kingsoft, Zheng continued the work he started at QianYi by building the R&D teams responsible for products in the field of video codecs, AI-enhanced image processing, VOIP, and live video streaming. Zheng led teams serving big-name enterprise customers, including Tencent, Baidu, ByteDance (TouTiao), Kuai, Sohu, and 360, to name a few. Before QianYi and Kingsoft, Zheng worked at Cisco on the WebEx team as a key contributor to their video conference development efforts.
Zheng earned his Ph.D. from Zhejiang University, where his thesis title was “Design of Source Decoder and Research of Multi-View Video Coding.” Zheng has filed more than 50 patents in the field of video encoding and processing due to his extensive practical and academic video encoding and image processing experience.
